Bill, a partner in Smith & Gesteland’s Strategic Business Services Department, concentrates a large portion of his time on business valuation, mergers and acquisitions and litigation support services. Bill also works with manufacturing, construction and service organizations and assists them in making sound business decisions.
Business Valuation
Bill is an ABV (Accredited in Business Valuation) issued through the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. Bill also earned his CVA (Certified Valuation Analyst) issued through the National Association of Certified Valuation Analysts.
Bill has valued hundreds of businesses for the following reasons:

Merger and Acquisition
Bill provides assistance to business owners’ when the time comes to sell the business. He works with owners on the front end to estimate the selling price, and help get the business ready for sale and maximize the selling price. Bill assists the seller’s attorney and financial planner to maximize the selling price of the business. He relies on many years of tax knowledge to help structure the deal to maximize the benefits to the seller. Bill also has experience working with buyers to negotiate the purchase of a business and again relies on his valuation knowledge to arrive at a fair purchase price and his tax background to structure the deal most advantageously for the buyer.
Advisory Services
Bill works with owners/managers of closely-held businesses in the manufacturing, construction, service, and real estate industries to assist owners in achieving their financial goals. Often times, this involves creating an exit plan or a succession plan and may include profitability consulting using the 80/20 approach. In addition, Bill advises clients on bank financing, recruitment of controllers or chief financial officers, entity structure and buy/sell agreements.
