Since 1972, Brian has been helping corporations, partnerships, and individuals plan to minimize their tax liabilities.

Corporate and Partnership Tax
Brian is the tax partner for many of Smith & Gesteland's large corporate clients. He has extensive experience in mergers and acquisitions, business formations, and ownership transition. As director of the tax area, he provides consulting and research services to firm clients on the tax implications of compensation and benefit plans, multi-state taxation, and other planning issues.

Individual Tax and Estate Planning
Brian works with a wide range of individuals to assist them to minimize their tax liabilities. He has considerable experience in the areas of estates and trusts. Brian has worked with individuals to minimize the gift taxes in succession planning and has assisted in setting up trusts for charitable giving. Brian has also helped estate and retirement planning clients to minimize their estate tax liability, assure themselves a comfortable retirement, and understand when insurance can benefit their planning.

Teaching
In his former role as faculty member with the UW Law School Extension Continuing Legal Education Program, he provided annual instruction to several hundred attorneys statewide on changing tax issues. He has also taught for the American College, Chartered Life Underwriter tax section.
