Since joining Smith & Gesteland, LLP in 1985, Mike has provided growing businesses with advice on business and tax planning.  He works primarily with closely held and family businesses and serves as an advisor to Smith & Gesteland, LLP on S-corporation and partnership taxation.  Mike also offered his expertise as co-author of Smith & Gesteland's "Guide to Going into Business".

Advising Growing Businesses
Mike works with owners and managers of companies in manufacturing, retail, trucking, and real estate industries. Mike plans, supervises, and reviews financial statement preparation, income tax planning, and consulting engagements for many small business clients. He has assisted clients with buy/sell agreements, buyouts of partners, business valuation, executive compensation planning, ownership transition, and estate planning.

Tax Planning and Preparation
Mike helps clients review their individual and business tax situations. He has helped develop strategies to minimize corporate and personal tax, such as advice on entity selection, inventory elections, retirement plans, and other planning issues.
