Steve joined Smith & Gesteland, LLP in 1983.  As a partner in the general business area, Steve's concentration includes construction contractors (including remodelers), real estate developers and investors, service, and other growing and small businesses.  Steve specializes in giving financial management and tax advice.  Steve helps many growing businesses with budgeting, cash flow planning, and management, inventory, receivables, job costing, and pricing.  Steve also helps clients plan, manage, and control their finances better through financial analysis tools such as key performance indicators, benchmarking, and business scorecards.

Construction and Remodeling and Real Estate

Steve has over 25 years of construction and real estate industry experience. He has helped clients improve profitability, cash flow, and financial position. He also implements budgeting, conducting break-even analysis, controlling labor costs, cash flow planning and management, profit improvement, business simplification, improving estimate process,  and implementing tax saving strategies.

Teaching

As an instructor for the UW-Madison, School of Business, Small Business Development Center, Steve explains to business owners how to set up financial records, how to use and analyze financial statements to make better business decisions based on financial data, and how to manage profitability, cash flow, and financial position. Steve is a frequent instructor and business plan evaluator for the Business and Education Partnership small business program in Madison high schools.
